100 Years of Brianza: The Story Behind MisuraEmme

In 1902, Mariano Comense, right in the heart of Brianza, a small Italian district that somehow became one of the world’s furniture-making capitals. Giovanni Mascheroni laid the foundation, and his sons, Giuseppe and Luigi, turned it into a real business, working with the skill of true craftsmen rather than factory owners. 1970, the company then evolved into the modern brand we now know as MisuraEmme, guided by architect Tiziana Mascheroni. It was a pivotal shift: a family workshop becoming a structured, design-forward company, without losing the artisan soul that built it.

You can’t separate MisuraEmme’s story from Brianza’s. This is a region where furniture-making is identity, passed down the way recipes or dialects are. That local DNA is why MisuraEmme’s pieces never feel purely “manufactured”, designed by respected architects, but built by hands that have done this work for generations.

While plenty of furniture brands scaled by standardizing, MisuraEmme leaned the opposite way, doubling down on one-on-one design with every client, furniture built around the person, not the other way around. That philosophy shows in iconic pieces like the Palo Alto wardrobe and Crossing bookcase, and in the brand’s decades-long presence at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, where it’s shown up for nearly every edition since the event began.

A Century Later, Still Evolving

Three generations after Giovanni Mascheroni first got started, the family is still involved in running the company, proof that in Brianza, craftsmanship is inherited, not just taught. The brand has also kept innovating: MisuraEmme was among the first in the industry to adopt water-based painting technology, choosing sustainability without compromising on finish quality.

Today, the majority of MisuraEmme products carry the “Made in Italy” name to homes and hospitality spaces worldwide. It’s a brand that didn’t survive more than 100 years by accident, it did it by refusing to treat heritage and innovation as opposites.

That’s the real story behind MisuraEmme: not just wardrobes, but a century-long relationship between a family, a craft, and a region that never stopped believing in doing things the right way.
